This site is right at the top of the estuary, and offers both brackish and freshwater depending on the tides. It is olso the site of the first dam on the river in both the geographic and chronological sense. The first dam on the site was built in about 1680, and there has been a dam there ever since. The dam is now the site of the Bronx River’s first fish ladder. The river can only be accessed by bucket throw. There are bathrooms in the park itself.
