Description:

Nitrate is a form of the nutrient nitrogen. Although nutrients are natural and important parts of an aquatic ecosystem, excess nutrients can negatively impact water quality. High concentrations of nutrients can fuel a rapid growth, or bloom, of algae, which can impact what quality by depleting oxygen from the water column.
