Description:

Total nitrogen is a measure of ammonia, nitrates and nitrites present in the water. These nutrients can fuel a rapid growth, or bloom, of algae and or aquatic plants, which can impact what quality by depleting oxygen from the water column. The U.S. EPA reports that an acceptable range of total nitrogen is 2 mg/L to 6 mg/L.
